| i will never forget that fateful day six years ago when 3,047 lives were ended by pure evil. when i saw the very first picture of 1 WTC on fire, i knew America was at war. today, six years later, i am disgusted there are americans that don't get it. i am so thankful for a president that understands the threat to our country and decided to fight the evil on the other side of the world instead of reacting to it in our streets or threatening lawsuits in our courtrooms. i am eternally grateful for the protection the american military provides and the enourmous sacrifice each one makes every day. it's not just the soldiers, but their families that sacrifice. i know my neighbor's husband died in iraq. i have several friends that have served or are serving even now. i can't completely express my gratitude on behalf of my family. i don't know the sacrifice of an arm, leg, or life. i can only imagine what it must be like for our military. i can only say thank you. i can also be absolutely sure my children understand what actually happened six years ago. i sat down and watched "In Memoriam, New York City, 9/11/01" with the girls tonight. i paused it and explained what happened. they watched the planes hit the WTC. they watched the buildings burn. they saw people jump to their deaths, rather than burn alive. they heard the screams of people in the streets. they saw the photographs of lost loved ones. i explained to them that evil is real in our world. i told them that i normally protect them from it, but i want to be sure they grow to know how precious American freedom truly is. i want them to know others died to give it to them. i want them to thank God everyday for it. i want them to cherish it. they're young, and it scared them. renee even cried a little bit when i put her to bed. i, for one, simply will not allow my kids to grow up without a vivid understanding of how exceptional America is. it is too easy for the affluence in America to make a person indifferent or even careless toward the freedom and liberty we enjoy everyday. my kids will understand it, understand the price paid for it, and live everyday to appreciate it. i need to do this, or they won't be there to stand up and protect it the next time it is threatened. may God continue to bless America. |
